How We Work

Our 5 Step Copywriting Process

To ensure the success of each copywriting project we follow this five step process:

Step 1 - Project Briefing

As we do not believe in a ‘one size fits all approach’ we quote each project individually. To do this effectively we need to find out as much information about your project.

Questions we will ask to find out your project requirements:

  • Do you need regular copywriting services or will it be a once off project?
  • What type of copywriting are you after? Do you want copy for a website, brochure etc.?
  • What is the size of the project? Do you need 1 page, 5 pages, 10 + pages?
  • How much content will be supplied? Will it be a rewrite of current content or do you want completely new text?
  • What is your timeframe?

Step 2 - Proposal

Based on the information supplied we then develop a tailored proposal to meet your requirements. We normally work on a project basis accept on retainer where we work to an hourly rate. All proposals and quotes are valid for 30 days.

If you choose to proceed you simply need to email us the signed Terms of Engagement. Prior to work commencing we will need a 50% deposit for work done on a project basis or one month in advance for retainer work.

Step 3 - Research

In order to write persuasive copy we need an intimate knowledge of your business, target market and objectives. We do this through asking a series of questions through a detailed questionnaire and if needed a subsequent phone interview.

We need to know about your:

  • Goals and objectives
  • Business, products and services (the key benefits and your point of difference)
  • Target audience and current customers (their needs, wants and frustrations)
  • Industry and main competitors
  • Call to action
  • Keywords for SEO copywriting (if needed)

During this process we need as much information as possible including any marketing collateral. As we often have access to sensitive information during this process, we are more than happy to sign confidentiality agreements for your complete peace of mind.

Step 4 - Writing and Review

Once our research is complete we start the writing process. With large copywriting projects we always send through a copy sample to ensure you are happy with the direction and tone before we write the full draft. Upon approval we then complete the draft in its entirety.

Often the first draft is where the most time is spent, writing and rewriting to ensure your copywriting piece will be engaging and enticing to your readers. Only when we feel it is right do we send it to you to review.

You will be emailed the draft in Microsoft Word format with the track changes feature turned on. We find many clients like to make changes and notes in the document and tracking changes allows us to see what changes have been made. If you would prefer to email or call us with changes or additions you are more than welcome to do so.

We find more often than not, our clients are happy with the first draft. Nevertheless, we include 2 rounds of revisions in order to ensure you are completely satisfied with the end project.

Step 5 - Completed Project

Upon final sign-off we will send you the master file and an invoice for the remaining balance.

That concludes our process, it’s that simple. So how long does it take?

Within the proposal we will give you an accurate timeline of how long the writing process will take, though please note that turnaround time will be greatly impacted by the amount of time it takes for you to review each draft.

We usually have multiple copywriting projects on the go so please keep in mind that it may be up to 7 days before we can commence your project. If you do have a high urgency, tight deadline job please contact us directly for our availability and we will accommodate you where we can. Please note there is a higher cost for rapid turnaround projects as they often require work outside business hours.
